We were just about to leave when my dad forgot his suitcase which had all of his clothes in it. Me, mom, and my brother were all starting to worry about Dad. We were all moving out of this house because our roommates down stairs always make too much racket. I went inside the house, and checked everywhere when suddenly I saw my Dad just standing there holding out his hand to me, I asked him what he was doing but he didn’t answer. He just stood there looking at me, there was no emotion in his face. Suddenly there was nothing everywhere, and then my dad disappeared and I fell.
I woke up, I don’t know how long I had been out I was still in the darkness but I could walk around I was just going nowhere. I felt like I was frightened and then I saw it was a cave. The scariest part of all was I saw a bunch of weird what looked like creatures moving around inside of the cave. After I saw this I decided I did not want to go inside of the cave. Then I heard a voice that came out of nowhere and said
“everywhere you go is safe just do not pass the red river or go inside of the cave you just saw”
“Wh-Wh-Who are you” I managed to blurt out
“For food eat the red fruit from the tree’s and drink from the green river, not the red”
“ What tree’s I do not see anything here just darkness”
After I said that I heard nothing more from that voice, but I started to get very tired. I sat down in the middle of nothing just darkness, and soon I dozed off. I dreamt about being with my family again we were at the beach playing and splashing around we were having a lot of fun. Then it turned into something horrible my Dad’s face was gone it was just skin and his hair I turned around and so was my brothers and also my Mom’s. Suddenly I woke up and I felt pain lots of pain everywhere I was moving very fast in a direction I did not know, then it started to sting and I saw the green grass and strange plants all around me coming toward me. Then I realized it was me falling toward them. All of a sudden there was a thud, and I saw black I was out again.
When I woke up I knew I was dehydrated and I was starving, had I been out for day’s. That didn’t matter now I needed to find food and I needed something to drink. This was a strange place there were flowers different and alike from earth some were huge, even bigger than me a 13 year old average sized boy. I was about to drink from the red water, and then I heard the voice again.
“Follow against the current of the red river until you come to the dessert keep going until you see the blue cactus then go south and you eventually get to the river of green, I know it is bad to drink green water from your planet but if you want to live trust me”
I decided to trust the voice and I walked against the current in a hour or so I was walking on sand, strangely I saw a tree in the sand I ran up and I saw blue and red fruits. I only ate the red ones they tasted like an apple ,but it did not look like one it was the size of my head but at least it was food the juice from the fruit quenched my thirst a little I grabbed another red fruit and saw the green river I drank a whole gallon probably I was so thirsty.
As I was walking out of the dessert because it was really hot, I saw a huge Venus fly trap looking at me. Then it tried to eat me I picked up a log I saw and stuck it in between its mouth, so it couldn’t close its mouth, I heard voices inside the plant saying stuff I couldn’t understand like in a different language . I saw my chance I turned and ran as fast as I could from the plant I ran until I was out of breath, then I was thirsty again. I turned around and avoided the plant, I went around It to another part of the river.
When I was finished I surprisingly saw a man walking toward me. He said something I didn’t understand then disappeared. I decided I was only imagining it and walked away I came to the Red river and inside of it my dad was swimming same with my mom and brother. Then I saw the face’s disappear like in the dream I jumped in the water to help them I saw a big fish under the water bite my foot off, I screamed but it didn’t even hurt me I looked down and there was three more now it was just the top half of my body left, soon it was only my head left, just my head floated In the red river, forever.

Speak
Imagine you are at a school where nobody likes you, everyone bullies on you, and worst of all it was because you were raped. Seeing that time passes you will get over it though, but not Melinda. In the book Speak by Laurie H. Anderson both Melinda is a complicated character and David is brave:this book also has a lot of things that relate to the real world.
Within this very cruel and messed up story there is a character named Melinda who is very brave. She stood up to Andy Evans (The Beast) at the end of the book. She fought him back with a shard of glass when he attempted to rape her a second time. Andy Evans was afraid of her because he didn’t want to get killed! Another thing that Melinda did was not tell her parents what happened to her when she was raped the first time. Besides that Melinda is also very depressed in this book. She would always sit and sleep in an old janitor's closet. After that she cut herself with a paper clip. Another thing that may make her depressed is that her parents don’t care about her. On page 88 her mom saw the cuts, she then said “ I don’t have time for this, Melinda” that’s pretty messed up.
While Melinda is a pretty complicated character, David is a brave one. On page 56 Mr. Neck (a very mean teacher) had a debate why his son did not get a job, David said “you opened a debate you can’t just close it just because it isn’t going your way” to Mr. Neck. He was then sent to the office. David was very brave for fighting for his right of speech. David also seemed to have an interest in Melinda, on page 109 him and Melinda were drawing pictures together. Another thing David did was invite her to a party it seemed like he REALLY wanted her to come. He didn’t really mind that Melinda would also copy his notes either.
Melinda and David ar erealistic characters in a book that relates to real life. Sadly there are rapist and people who beat women like that fiend Andy Evans in this world. The good thing is though that there are good people who help you like David and Mr. Freeman. Worst of all though is that there are stupid people that do stupid things like get drunk at a party and drive home drunk killing themselves and others. There also people who know that they are trying to kill themselves like Melinda cutting herself. There are also abusive or neglecting parents in the world .
When you get inside of highschool you have to be brave enough to tell people about things, even if you are in Melinda's situation. There are messed up people in the world and you may not have someone backing you up when your out of highschool, like your friends and family. If you don't at least try, you are just going to make things a whole lot worse.
